LG polls in September not possible: Rana Sanaullah

LAHORE: Provincial Minister for Law and Local Bodies Rana Sanaullah has said that holding local government (LG) elections in September was not possible, Geo News reported.

Talking to Geo News, Rana said if election commission wanted to conduct LG polls without new delimitation it would not be free and fair.

He said they would not have any objection if the ECP announces local bodies elections after new delimitation at the earliest.

The minister said in past tenure they could not hold LG polls as there were 30 million bogus voters.

The summary to convene Punjab assembly session in next week had been moved, he said and added that legislation on Local Bodies Act would be finalized in three to four weeks.

Rana Sanaullah said they had not received any letter from the ECP yet.

It may be noted here that the Supreme Court had directed all the four provinces to conduct LG elections by September.
