ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has issued the final list of candidates aspiring to contest the presidential election scheduled to be held on July 30.
According to the list issued by the ECP, as many as 24 candidates have filed nomination papers from across the country. The ECP said that the papers filed by the candidates disclose that 15 of them have not mentioned any proposer and/or seconder.
The break up given by the ECP shows that 9 candidates filed papers from Islamabad; 7 each from Punjab and Sindh and; 1 from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa; while not a single candidate came forward to contest the presidential poll from Balochistan province.
It is mandatory for the presidential candidates to fill in the space given in the nomination papers for a proposer and seconder.
One of the candidates has mentioned the name of Prime Minister Nawas Sharif as his proposer and that of President Asif Ali Zardari as seconder, the ECP said.
The scrutiny of the papers will be carried out by the ECP Chief Election Commissioner, Fakhruddin G Ibrahim as the Returning Officer on July 26 in Islamabad.
