FAISALABAD: At least fifteen people have died since Thursday night after consuming toxic booze in Warispura, a Christian neighbourhood here, Geo News reported Friday night.
According to sources, a lot of people fell sick after imbibing large amounts of homemade brew of liquor at a party on Thursday night and were rushed Warispora area of Faisalabad district.
The district administration had earlier confirmed the death of eight persons.
DCO Anjum Ahmed Shah told Geo News that the toll now stands at fifteen after the death of four more persons. Eleven victims are still being treated out of which four are said to be in critical condition.
The relatives of the deceased told that the toll is above 20.
Sources said the locally distilled moonshine was methanol-tainted, which led to the deaths.
Hospital sources said some of the sick were discharged after their stomachs were washed, however a few of them were yet critical.
The DCO told that four moonshiners, whom the liquor was procured from, were arrested during raids.
