NAP is not a plan of any party, institution: Nisar

ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Interior Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan on Monday said the National Action Plan (NAP) is for the whole nation rather than belonging to any particular political party, group or institution.

Addressing an official meeting here, he said improvement in the country’s law and order situation was visible due to the National Action Plan.

Chaudhry Nisar said the whole nation was backing the NAP and expressed his resolve to continue implementation on the same with full force.

The statement comes a day after Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari raised question over effectiveness of the NAP, calling it “N-league Action Plan”. He alleged the PML-N government of using it against its political opponents.

The federal and Sindh governments are at loggerheads over the issue of Rangers’ special powers in the province for the past month.

The latter had refused to accept Islamabad’s rejection of a summary regarding extending Rangers’ authority with limited powers through a resolution passed by the Sindh Assembly.

The Centre had extended the special powers of the paramilitary force in Sindh without the consent of the provincial government.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif visited Karachi today. He however left the Sindh capital without addressing the issue.

It may be mentioned that chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah did not accompany the premier in all three functions he attended in his day-long visit today due to reported illness.

PPP’s Senator Saeed Ghani told Geo News that the chief minister had informed the prime minister about his physical condition earlier in the day.

Meanwhile, Senior Sindh Minister Nisar Khuhro said that other option were available to the PPP if the premier failed to address the issue.

Interestingly, Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar had also spoken about ‘options’ a few days ago.
