HYDERABAD: Following an intelligence alert, the security has been beefed up around Hyderabad central prison to checkmate a Dera-Ismael-Khan-jailbreak like attack, Geo News reported.
According to the sources, hundreds of additional police mobilized from other parts of the district have been deployed inside and around the Hyderabad Central Jail.
They added that prison authorities have joined forces with intelligence agencies to ensure that tight security was maintained around the prison.
All roads leading to the jail have been blocked as a security measure.
Earlier, the Sindh Minister for Prisons, Manzoor Wasan, had warned that jails in the province were under threat.
Wasan had said that terrorists belonging to outlawed outfits were imprisoned in the Karachi, Hyderabad, and Sukkur central jails.
He added that security measures had been taken in light of these threats.
Punjab Law Minister, Rana Sanaullah had also confirmed that jails in Sindh could be attacked, however jails in Punjab were not under threat.
As many as 243 prisoners including 30 militants escaped as militants carrying heavy weapons stormed D I Khan’s Central Jail on Monday, July 29.
The attack on the hundred-year-old detention facility was blamed on weak security arrangements where inmates belonging to various banned organizations were held.
Nine people including six policemen were killed and 14 others injured in the audacious attack while security forces also killed four fleeing prisoners
