Hyderabad, Sukkur central jails being fortified with trenches

HYDERABAD: Trenches are being dug around the Hyderabad and Sukkur central jails on top of beefing up the overall security to thwart any terrorist attack like Dera Ismael Khan jailbreak.

According to SSP Hyderabad Saqib Ismail Memon, the police received intelligence report about a possible terrorist attack on the prison similar to D I Khan breakout.

"We have mobilized police from whole district to provide security inside and outside the jail," he said adding that the process of deployment continued for up to three hours.

The SSP said dozens of police mobiles and some armoured vehicles have also been deployed.

According to the jail officials, apart from terrorists belonging to outlawed outfits, the prison also houses those who were convicted in the murder case of American journalist Daniel Pearl.

The prison population including both the convicts and under trial prisoners is nearly 1,700, the officials said. (APP)
