KARACHI: Several villages were inundated and crops spreading over hundreds of acres were destroyed following the breaches in dykes in Vehari and Uch Sharif.
According to reports, the floodwater entered schools and houses, forcing people to reach safer places through Rescue Boats after a breach in an embankment on River Satluj.
Similarly, an embankment on River Chinab collapsed in Uch Sharif, submerging Noorwalam Ghafoorabad and other localities in Chistian.
Road links to several villages of Punjab including Sialkot, Hafizabad Rajanpur were cut. Stagnant water was yet to be drained out in the flood affected areas. The same situation was witnessed in district Sukkur near Dadu-Moro Bridge where a number of villages were surrounded by floodwater.
Educational activities and electricity could not be restored in the flood affected areas. Locals lamented that the administrations of their areas have not started rehabilitation work.
