KARACHI: Umer Kathio – termed as the ‘key suspect’ in Safoora carnage – has been arrested in a raid conducted jointly by Police and Rangers here on Sunday.
The raid was conducted on a lead from Saad Aziz – one of the five main accused, who has been in police custody for the past few months.
Sources told Geo News that Kathio had formed a network of terrorists in 2011. His task was to facilitate the terrorists of the proscribed al-Qaeda.
They further said the al-Qaeda linked main accused had later joined Daesh, also known by acronyms IS, ISIS and ISIL, while his wife runs a network of the terror outfit in Sindh.
Umer Kathio’s arrest may lead to the arrest of more key suspects of the Safoora Carnage.
At least 45 people, including women and children, belonging to the Ismaili community were brutally massacred when armed terrorists had opened indiscriminate fire inside a bus near Safoora Chowrangi, Karachi in May 2015.
