ISLAMABAD: The constitutional amendment bill seeking extension in the retirement age of the Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) by two years from the existing 65 years to 68 could not be tabled in the national assembly on Tuesday here, as the House rejected the move by majority vote, Geo News reported.
Earlier, an independent member national assembly, Jamshed Dasti in his constitutional amendment bill had sought the extension in the retirement age of the CJP from the existing 65 years to 68 for his historical contributions in strengthening the democratic system in the country.
The government opposed the move seeking extension in the retirement age of the CJP and later the House rejected it by majority vote.
On the other hand, Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI)’s Dr. Shirin Mazari MNA presented the International agreements extension bill, while Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM)’s MNA, Salman Baloch criminal law amendment bill. Both the bills were later sent to the concerned standing committees.
