ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister, Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan Saturday telephoned Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) Chief, Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman and assured him that the government will launch a thorough investigation into the Rawalpindi tragedy, Geo News reported.
Chaudhry Nisar further said that those responsible for the violence in the garrison city will be brought to book.
Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman described the Friday’s incident in Rawalpindi as extremely tragic, adding the miscreants carried out this act to destroy the peace of the country.
Authorities imposed a curfew in the city of Rawalpindi, where sectarian clashes on Friday left nine people dead and more than 60 injured, and spawned retaliatory violence in at least two other cities.
Earlier, the city district administration relaxed the curfew from 9pm Saturday till midnight.
