MULTAN: Following a tense situation that emanated after yesterday’s face-off between the two groups, the law and order situation in the city was fast returning to normalcy, but the contingents of Pak army still remained deployed in some sensitive areas on Sunday here, Geo News reported.
The district administration had called the army, as violence and clashes started between the two groups Saturday morning at Bohar Gate, which soon spread over to Ghanta Ghar, Galgasht, Hussain Agahi, Dolat Gate and several other areas in the city, leaving over 20 persons including the 3 policemen injured. Some unknown persons had also torched several shops, houses and other properties.
Talking to media, Multan DCO, Zahid Saleem Gondal said that there was no curfew imposed in the city and section 144 only has been clamped prohibiting gathering of 5 or more persons at a place, exhibiting arms and aerial firing.
Multan RPO Amin told the media that the entire city was now peaceful and the citizens could movie about anywhere in the city. The security of mosques and Imambagahs have been beefed up.
Earlier, talking to media at DCO office, Provincial minister Chaudry Waheed Arain said that a 10-member probe committee comprising of ulema-e-karam and peace committee has been constituted on whose findings the miscreants would be taken to task.
On the other hand, Majlis Wahdatul Muslemeen leader Yasif Nadeem Hashmi demanded a judicial enquiry into the incidents of violence and arson in the city.
