Two cops among four killed in Kohat violence

KOHAT: At least four people including two policemen were killed as two armed groups exchanged fire on Monday.

An angry mob set several shops ablaze following the armed clash. The situation in Kohat remains tense and troops were called in to maintain law and order.

City administration and police sealed the entry and exit points of the city, while residents have been directed not to leave their homes.

According to sources, curfew was imposed in Kohat and Hangu. Police claimed to have arrested nine people recovering heavy cache of arms from their possession.

Intermediate examinations were also cancelled for indefinite period in the wake of violence.

Deputy Commissioner Hangu hosted a Jirga that represented the two rivals groups to sign a deal.

However, the sitting ended without any result and further talks were put off till 11:00 am Tuesday.
