KARACHI: Police have prepared the initial report of the blast that targeted Inspector Shafiq Tanoli near the Pakhtoon Chowk close to Old Sabzi Mandi on Friday night, Geo News reported.
According to the report, the attack was carried out through a bomb fixed in a motorcycle and police have found the engine and chassis number of the used bike. The attackers riding the motorcycle had slipped before the blast due to which it could not collide with the inspector’s vehicle, the report stated.
The investigating officials told that due to the possibility of the attacker to be alive and among the injured persons, investigation from the three injured is underway.
The authorities further added that security of ten senior officials including Chaudhry Aslam, Rao Anwar and Farooq Awan has been beefed up after the incident.
It may be mentioned here that Inspector Shafiq Tanoli survived an attack on Friday night when a motorbike carrying an explosive device hit his double-cabin pickup near Old Sabzi Mandi. The explosion, however, killed two people and injured 21 others, including four police personnel.
Tanoli was returning to his residence near the Pakhtoon Chowk, Old Sabzi Mandi area, on the University Road along with his guards in his double-cabin vehicle when an explosive device on a motorcycle exploded.
Tanoli and three other personnel were injured in the attack but were stable and undergoing treatment at the Aga Khan Hospital.
Additional IGP Karachi Shahid Hayat after visiting the spot of the attack confirmed to newsmen that two civilians, including a child, were killed and 21, including four police officials, were injured. Later, he also visited the Aga Khan Hospital to inquire about the health of injured former SHO Mauripur Shafiq Tanoli and three of his guards.
