ISLAMABAD: During proceedings of the treason trial against former president General (retd) Pervez Musharraf, prosecutor Akram Sheikh said the medical report of the former military dictator was unprofessional and did not include relevant test records.
Akram Sheikh continued his arguments and stated that an ECG and angiography is conducted within 48-72 hours if the patient is critical. But in Musharraf’s case, no ECG has so far been recorded even after 28 days.
Justice Faisal Arab then questioned the authenticity of Armed Forces Institute of Cardiology (AFIC) and asked if the facility is certified by the International Standard Organization (ISO).
Akram Sheikh apprised the bench that the hospital is ISO certified.
At the start of today’s proceedings, Musharraf’s counsel Anwar Mansoor informed the court that his client’s legal team was busy at the Supreme Court regarding the hearing of a review petition filed against the SC verdict issued on July 31, 2009 relating to the November 3, 2007 emergency and, therefore, made a plea that the hearing be deferred enabling him also to attend the SC review petition hearing.
Anwar Mansoor further submitted that he has yet to go through the objections raised by the prosecutor Akram Sheikh against the medical report issued by the AFIC and prepare himself for the arguments.
The special court, thereby, deferred the hearing until Thursday saying that if no stay order will be issued by the SC, the proceeding would resume as usual today.
