Some elements want democracy rolled back: Sirajul Haq
LAHORE: Amir Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Sirajul Haq Sunday said some elements want the process of democracy wrapped up, as the present tension between institutions would only cause damage to the democracy.

“Only people have the power to elect or oust the governments,” Sirajul Haq said while talking to media representatives on the occasion of a meeting of JI’s Central Executive Committee here.

In a clear reference to Saturday’s meeting and a joint press conference of PAT leader Dr Tahirul Qadri and PML-Q leaders Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain and Pervaiz Elahi in London, he said Pakistan’s issues cannot be discussed in London. “Only London’s issues can be discussed in London,” he added.

Sirajul Haq demanded allocation of Rs100 billion each for the development of Karachi and tribal areas in the upcoming budget for next fiscal year.

He said it is only due to the military operation in parts of FATA that people were forced to flee to the Afghanistan. “This situation can be perilous for Pakistan,” he warned.
