KARACHI: Faisal Sherjan, Director Strategy and Planning at Jang Group, on Saturday said that the treatment meted out to Geo was a clear example of hate speech on the internet.
Speaking at the launching ceremony of a special report on “Hate Speech in Pakistani cyberspace” under the auspices of a local organization, he said repetition of Geo’s inadvertent mistake by other private channels was a move aimed at spreading hatred.
Other speakers at the ceremony warned that if steps were not taken to prevent hate speech on the internet, intolerance in the society would only snowball.
They called for a legislation to stop hate speech on social media websites.
