Govt to provide legal cover to army : Pervez Rashid

ISLAMABAD: Federal Information Minister Pervez Rashid said on Saturday that it was incumbent upon the government to provide legal protection to the army so that the armed forces can discharge their responsibilities.

He said that the army jawans had rendered great sacrifices in the fight against terrorism and the government would provide legal cover to army if it is called to help civil administration whenever the need arose.

Rashid said that it was Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s constitutional right to move the court against deployment of the army. He, however, added that the PTI should also use the same option for electoral reforms instead of mounting pressure on the judiciary through demonstrations.

He said that the Pakistani nation had buried the politics of confrontation of May 11 and now it was united for the stability of the democratic institutions. Pervez Rashid claimed ‘tsunamis of chaos will soon meet its logical end”.
