GLASGOW: Pakistan’s Shah Hussain Shah obtained a silver medal in the 100kg category of the men’s judo event in the Commonwealth Games in Scotland.
Shah Hussain was defeated in the final by Scotland’s own Euwan Burton on Saturday.
He earlier beat New Zealand’s Tim Slyfield in the semifinal but failed to win a gold in the final.
However, this was the first medal won by a Pakistani sportsman in the Commonwealth Games 2014.
Previously, Shah won a bronze medal in the Asian Judo Championship and bronze again at Under-20 JIKJI Cup International Judo Championship held in South Korea.
He is the son of former Pakistani boxer Hussain Shah, who also received a bronze medal in the 1988 Seoul Summer Olympics in the middle weight category, and was the first Pakistani to win a boxing Olympic medal.
