Talks with government entered final phase: Qadri

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT), Allama Tahirul Qadri Wednesday said the ongoing talks with the government have entered a final phase.

He was addressing the participants of his party’s sit-in outside the Parliament House after his meeting with a three-member government panel in his container.


Qadri said during the meeting he suggested to the delegation that he was ready to extend the deadline only for a few hours if two of his demands are met at once.

According to sources, the two demands that he wants fulfilled immediately are resignation of Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif and registration of Model Town tragedy case.

He said because the delegation did not have authority to even meet these two demands, they had to leave for Prime Minister House. They will now return to resume the talks around 9:30 PM, he added.

The government that met the PAT leader comprised Governor Punjab Chaudhry Sarwar, Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ebad Khan, Federal Minister for Finance Ishaq Dar and Abdul Qadir Baloch.

Earlier, the ultimatum of 48 hours that he gave to the government expired at 6:00PM.

Giving the ultimatum a couple days back, Tahirul Qadri had asked the rulers to quit and the assemblies be dissolved before the end of the deadline.

He had also asked the government to make public the report of the judicial commission as constituted by it to probe the murder of 14 people in the Model Town tragedy.
