INCHEON: Pakistan fought gallantly against China before going down 1-0 in their second match of group F at Hwaseong Sports Complex Ground on Monday evening thus making their exit from the event.

Striker Feiya Chang slammed the match-winning goal in the 20th minute which put China in the pre quarterfinal rounds.

Second successive defeat sent Pakistan packing after they lost the opening match against host South Korea.

Pakistan enjoyed better ball possession and equal three shots at goals against youthful Chinese team which was without their all world class players. Captain Kaleemullah and Naveed Ahmed kept Chinese under pressure with consistent display.

However Kaleem’s three shots and Naveed s double attempt failed to bore fruits. Pakistan strikers made a number of inroads in Chinese defence but failed to convert their chances. Compared to China’s brace of corners kicks Pakistan secured four corner.

However Chinese goal keeper Jingqi remained alert under the bars thawarting their attempts. Though Chinese enjoyed the upper hand in the first session Pakistan gave rough and tough with a series of attacks.

But poor shooting and solid defence nullified their efforts. Pakistan chief coach Shamlan Mubarak of Bahrain made lone change when Muhammad Zeeshan came for Ali Sher just before the break in order bring the equalizer.

Forwards played with more vigor and thurst. However Chinese defender remained firm.

The last 16 round of the competition will start on September 25 with top team of each group advancing in the knock out stage.

Pakistan coach Shamlan Mubarak however expressed his satisfaction over the performance of his team in Asiad.

“We lost both game against top teams like Korea and China by smaller margin which was clear reflection of the improvement of the team,” he added. (APP)
