LAHORE: Amir Jamaat-e-Islami (JI), Sirajul Haq on Wednesday said the incumbent government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has successfully changed the culture of ‘Thana & Patwari’ in the province.
Addressing a ceremony in Lahore High Court’s Karachi Shuhada Hall, Sirajul Haq said lawyers had become ‘Ababeels’ (swallows) and smashed to pieces the idols of dictatorship in Pervez Musharraf’s era.
He advised the government to initiate electoral reforms without waiting for the end of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) sit-in.
Praising the lawyers’ community, Siraj said it was the bar members who came forward and stopped Musharraf when he tried to strangle the judiciary. The legal fraternity also waged a struggle for the supremacy of justice.
He expressed his support for the reconstitution of Election Commission of Pakistan and investigation of ‘rigging’ in 2013 elections.
Siraj claimed that he organized thirty seven meetings between the government and politicians who were staging sit-ins.
