PESHAWAR: A bomb planted on a motorbike killed a soldier and wounded two others in Mithra area of Peshawar on Friday, officials said.

The incident happened in Mithra area on the outskirts of Peshawar, the capital of northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.

"A remote controlled bomb planted on a motorbike went off as an army vehicle passed by it, killing one soldier and wounding two others," SP Rural Shakirullah Bangash told. At least 4-5 kilograms of explosives were used that were fixed in a motorcycle, he added.

A local police official also confirmed the incident and casualties.

Rescue teams and police personnel reached the site soon after the blast and kicked off relief efforts. The injured were shifted to Lady Reading Hospital for treatment.

The security forces vehicle was damaged and a motorcycle was destroyed due to explosion.

The security forces’ vehicle was en route to Warsak from Peshawar, SP Rural added.

Nobody has so far claimed responsibility of the attack but convoys of security forces routinely come under militant attacks in the northwest.
