Fire engulfs Karachi factory

KARACHI: Almost all the fire tenders at the disposal of the Fire Brigade Department have been trying to douse a fire that engulfed a factory located in SITE area for eight hours.

A portion of the factory building collapsed after midnight due to intensity of the fire.

Officials said the third degree fire erupted at a factory located near Walika Chowrangi, adding that they were facing difficulties to extinguish the flames as the factory lacked "an appropriate space for movement".

Some explosion were also heard from the factory as chemical containers caught fire.

Sindh Governor Ishratul Ebad directed the authorities to call in Pakistan Navy fire tenders.

He telephoned Karachi Administrator and Commissioner to express his concerns over the incident.
