Siraj urges political parties to join hands against blasphemy

KARACHI: Amir Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Sirajul Haq on Sunday vowed to chase down blasphemers of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) and urged all political parties of the country to join hands to protect the Islamic cause.

Speaking at a rally organised to denounce publication of blasphemous caricatures in France, he said the Muslim faith revolves around Prophet Mohammad (peace be upon him) and vowed to shed even the last drop of blood to protect his (PBUH) honour.

Haq, speaking to the JI supporters gathered at University Road, said that he had asked Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to call a meeting of Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). Upon noncompliance of his appeal, he added that he contacted leaders of the Islamic countries himself to urge them for a unified protest demonstration on the matter.

He vowed to continue raising voice against those who committed blasphemy and urged all political parties of the country to get united on the sensitive subject.

Assailing political rivals Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) for claiming that his party supports terrorists, the JI chief said they had staged a protest march on French embassy and not on Nine-Zero – the MQM’s headquarters in Karachi.

Later speaking to Geo News, MQM leader Faisal Sabzwari said that the JI amir was criticising his party in their support of terrorism. He claimed that JI activists were involved in terrorist activities.

Sabzwari said the masses of Pakistan must decide today whether they want to allow 'supporters of terrorists' to hold protest rallies or to ban them.
