LAHORE: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Amir Sirajul Haq on Monday said that secret ballot must be avoided to ensure transparent and fair Senate elections.
Speaking to media representatives outside Shaukat Khanam Cancer Hospital here, he said that the political parties have preferred wealthy while selecting their candidates for the upcoming polls for the upper house of Parliament, scheduled for March 5.
He urged the authorities to take steps for ensuring transparent elections, saying an open-ballot would make the process fair.
Criticising the political leadership for giving tickets for the senate polls to wealthy capitalists, Haq demanded that the rulers must ensure justice and fairness in running the affairs of the country.
Commenting on a Joint Investigation Team’s (JIT) report on Baldia factory fire in Karachi, the JI chief said that it would be a great injustice to the labourers if the issue was put on the back burner.
