KASUR: Scores of people protested against Inspector General Punjab Police Mushtaq Sukhera after he expressed his lack of knowledge about probe into a child sex abuse scandal which has been roiling the country since Sunday.
The top police officer of the province, who was supposed to be aware of even minor details of the scandal, appeared to be rubbing salt on the wounds of the locals by expressing his cluelessness about the case.
One of the protesters threw a shoe at the IG as the enraged crowd agitated against Punjab police and shouted slogans against them.
It was evident during IG’s talk with the media that he was not informed about the name of the Investigation officer probing the case.
He was constantly taking briefing from DIG Abu Bakar Allah Khuda Bakhsh about the case during his talk with the media. The officer not only was ignorant about the location of the village where the scandal took place, but also lacked basic information about the victims.
He, however, told journalists that no influential or a secret hand was playing any role to protect the elements involved in the crime.
The IG said the SHO would be sacked if his links with the accused are proven.
Later on, sources in police said District Police Officer (DPO) Kasur, Rai Babar Saeed and DSP Hassan Farooq have been dismissed from their posts.
