Delaware

Delaware, the first state to join the Union in December 1787, is located on the eastern seaboard of the United States. It has participated in all 59 presidential elections.

Delaware has consistently had three electoral votes since the 1830s, with a brief period of having four electoral votes from 1812 to 1820 due to population growth. The reduction back to three electoral votes was based on the results of the 1820 census.

In recent elections, Delaware has voted for Democratic candidates. In the 2020 presidential election, Democrat Joe Biden won Delaware by a margin of 19 percentage points over Donald Trump. Similarly, in the 2016 election, Hillary Clinton, the Democratic candidate, won Delaware by 11 percentage points over Donald Trump.

Earlier in the 20th century, Delaware was a Republican stronghold, influenced significantly by the presence of the DuPont Company and the Du Pont family. However, this influence waned as the state's economy diversified.
