Massachusetts

Massachusetts was one of the original 13 colonies of the British Empire and joined the Union in February 1788. The state has participated in all US presidential elections.

Massachusetts has been largely Democratic since the 1928 election, voting only four times for a Republican candidate. The state has supported Dwight Eisenhower and Ronald Reagan twice each. Massachusetts voters did not support George McGovern in the 1972 election; McGovern lost to Richard Nixon.

The pattern of Democratic candidates winning Massachusetts continued in the 2020 presidential election, where Joe Biden secured 66% of the votes, defeating Donald Trump, who received 32%. Massachusetts' electoral votes have decreased from 18 to 11, reflecting a decline in its population
