Pennsylvania

Pennsylvania, the second state to join the Union in December 1787, is also the state where the US Constitution was written after extensive debates among the Founding Fathers.

Known as "The Keystone State," Pennsylvania earned this nickname due to its significant geographic, economic, and political position in the early days of the American nation.

Pennsylvania has participated in all presidential elections from 1788 to 2020. It is considered a battleground state, though it supported the Democratic Party in six elections before 2016. That year, Donald Trump secured the state, breaking the Democratic win streak in Pennsylvania. Trump won Pennsylvania, along with Michigan and Wisconsin, which were key to his victory in the 2016 election.

The state continued to be competitive in 2020, as Joe Biden won Pennsylvania by a narrow margin of 1.2%.

In the 2020 election, Pennsylvania had 20 electoral votes, but it will have 19 in 2024 due to a loss of one seat after the census. A century ago, the state had 38 electoral votes.
