Sir Keir Starmer arrived at Buckingham Palace to meet King Charles for an audience at which the monarch asked him to form a new administration. The Labour leader’s wife, Victoria Starmer, was accompanying him.
They were greeted by Sir Clive Alderton, Principal Private Secretary to the King and Queen, and Commander Will Thornton, Equerry to the King.
